File this under crazy

The Religious Freedom Restoration Act of Indiana has gotten plenty of press attention when the Governor of Indiana Mike Pence made it legal to discriminate against the LGBT community (and other minority groups) if that’s what your religion believes in.  There is similar legislation in place now in Arkansas (shocking).  Here is a little nugget of information straight from HRC on their blog.

The wave of anti-LGBT bills filed across the country continues to swell. As of today, lawmakers have introduced more than 85 anti-LGBT bills in 28 state legislatures.

Some state legislative sessions have already drawn to a close, but other state legislatures will be in session for several more weeks or even months.  So far this year 34 anti-LGBT bills in nine states have been defeated or failed to meet key legislative deadlines, but two have passed — one in Arkansas and one in Indiana.

To me, the bottom line is simple.  Religion should not be used to justify hate.  If a religion is preaching hate it’s wrong.  It’s actually that simple.  There is no room for debate here.  Here is the other thing.  We should all know better.  Especially people in the government.

As it turns out, companies are outraged as well.  Apple, Walmart, Salesforce NASCAR and Subaru have all spoken out against the laws  The list of supporters is growing by the hour.  Indiana is facing very real backlash which will ultimately result in a loss of revenue for the state.

In closing, check out this quote…“Discrimination is always wrong, always beneath the dignity of our nation, and always a shameful legacy to leave our children.” – House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.  I agree Nancy.  And good for you for making to very clear.

Hope the world wakes up and soon. We have come so far and yet have so much further to go…

Anti-gay rant by Vine star: Only gay men have HIV

This is…bad.  Nash Grier, a 16-year old Vine star with 8.7 million followers released this video in April but the video has come under the spotlight.  He’s showing a commercial for an HIV home-testing kit  where they say “Testing for HIV, it’s not a gay thing”.  Grier then says “Yes it is! Fag!”
The F word makes me cringe in agony each time I hear it.  Hearing an obnoxious teenage boy screaming it makes it worse somehow.  Grier has released an apology statement saying he is sorry and that he “was young and in a bad place”.   I think it’s safe to say the countless people that have been bullied for their sexual orientation or HIV status are the ones that were in a bad place.

This type of language is nothing short of a hate-crime.  Virtual in nature but very much real.  We all know HIV is not a “gay thing”.

Here are some facts from the CDC.  Read the full report here.

Transmission Category: From 2008 through 2011, among adult and adolescent males, the annual number of diagnosed HIV infections attributed to male-to-male sexual contact increased. The numbers of infections attributed to injection drug use, to male-to-male sexual contact and injection drug use, and to heterosexual contact decreased. Among adult and adolescent females, the numbers of infections attributed to injection drug use and to heterosexual contact decreased. In 2011, diagnosed infections attributed to male-to-male sexual contact (65%, including male-to-male sexual contact and injection drug use) and those attributed to heterosexual contact (27%) accounted for approximately 92% of diagnosed HIV infections in the United States.

Hope this kids learns his lesson and uses his fame for good.

Quick rant

Asking someone to accept homophobia in any way is a form of a hate crime. Period end of story.

For example, today on CNN Chris Cuomo asked Methodist Church Pastor Frank Schaefer why he can’t join a church that is more accepting of the LGBT community. Mr. Schaefer was suspended by the church after officiating his son’s gay wedding and a brave man that is on the RIGHT side of history.

If you ask someone to accept bigotry of any kind for any reason, you are comity on a hate crime. That is how serious it is.

That is all for now.
Kisses!

Amazing advice!

Check out the amazing advice to a homophobic mom from an advice column! LOVES IT!!

Lesbian gets hate instead of a tip. Our POV on this.

So this story has been all over the web the past few days and we weren’t sure if we wanted to cover it but we had to share our thoughts on this as well.

Image from Facebook. Dayna Morales.

Dayna Morales received a lovely “tip” from a “family in NJ.

Facebook: moralesday12
Dayna Morales was a US Marine.

Her tip because she was a lesbian.  $0 on a nearly $100 bill and this lovely message from a “family”, “I’m sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle & the way you live your life.”.  Oh, and the lovely “mom” said this to Dayna, “Oh I thought you were gonna say your name is Dan. You sure surprised us,”.

Obviously the concern is for the kids.  They are being raised by a delusional, bigoted bully and are being hard-wired to hate.  THAT is the obvious take-away.  My concern is this.  What if one of those kids is gay? The chance is slim here but my point is to think about how many gay kids are brought up with a similar situation.  Not only are the kids learning hate but they are learning to hate themselves.   There are hundreds of studies that will tell you that GLBT teens have a higher incidence of suicide and drug related issues.  Think about what that would do to that child’s sense of self.   Now take a step back and ask why and where.  Why do people feel this way and where does it come from? That’s what I want to discuss more and what will be the main topic of my upcoming book! Stay tuned…
