This is awesome. There is right and there is wrong. Discrimination is and always has been wrong.

The Religious Freedom Restoration Act of Indiana has gotten plenty of press attention when the Governor of Indiana Mike Pence made it legal to discriminate against the LGBT community (and other minority groups) if that’s what your religion believes in. There is similar legislation in place now in Arkansas (shocking). Here is a little nugget of information straight from HRC on their blog.
The wave of anti-LGBT bills filed across the country continues to swell. As of today, lawmakers have introduced more than 85 anti-LGBT bills in 28 state legislatures.
Some state legislative sessions have already drawn to a close, but other state legislatures will be in session for several more weeks or even months. So far this year 34 anti-LGBT bills in nine states have been defeated or failed to meet key legislative deadlines, but two have passed — one in Arkansas and one in Indiana.
To me, the bottom line is simple. Religion should not be used to justify hate. If a religion is preaching hate it’s wrong. It’s actually that simple. There is no room for debate here. Here is the other thing. We should all know better. Especially people in the government.
As it turns out, companies are outraged as well. Apple, Walmart, Salesforce NASCAR and Subaru have all spoken out against the laws The list of supporters is growing by the hour. Indiana is facing very real backlash which will ultimately result in a loss of revenue for the state.
In closing, check out this quote…“Discrimination is always wrong, always beneath the dignity of our nation, and always a shameful legacy to leave our children.” – House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. I agree Nancy. And good for you for making to very clear.
Hope the world wakes up and soon. We have come so far and yet have so much further to go…

What a brilliant campaign by HRC! The All God’s Children spots will run in Mississippi where I am sure you guess…is not the most gay-friendly state in the USA. Through their community outreach, HRC was able to identify an opportunity to speak to a community and hit the issue at it’s core. In Mississippi, the issue happened to be a deeply religious community who viewed gay as “sin”.
This campaign starts the conversation and is speaking to people directly and in a way that fits their lives. HRC has also opened an office in Mississippi and has feet on the street. GOOD FOR THEM.

The Mormon Church just released a SHOCKING statement saying that they don’t want gay marriages conducted in their temples. However, feel free to marry your sister. Ok, I added the sister part but…let’s be real folks. Uh huh.
Here is a statement from the Mormon Church that I actually agree with: “Just as those who promote same-sex marriage are entitled to civility, the same is true for those who oppose it,”. This is true. Just because their view point is clearly bigoted, they are entitled to it. You can’t force someone to think differently. That said, they don’t have the right to influence politics or infringe on the rights of others.
“Consistent with our fundamental beliefs, Church officers will not employ their ecclesiastical authority to perform marriages between two people of the same sex, and the Church does not permit its meetinghouses or other properties to be used for ceremonies, receptions, or other activities associated with same-sex marriages,”. “Nevertheless, all visitors are welcome to our chapels and premises so long as they respect our standards of conduct while there.”. Well…they have the right to their opinion. I think it’s unfortunate that an organized religion would exclude a chunk of their own but that is their choice.
Will be interesting to see how the organized religions handle this going forward. The head in the sand approach is starting to wear thin with people that can think for themselves and as people are more educated now.

A crowbar was used by a deranged idiot to attack his sister. Mind you, SHE brought shame to the family…
So file this under disgusting. According to the Associated Press, Ahmed Mohammed Tuma allegedly attacked his sister with a crowbar because she was a lesbian and “a disgrace to her family”. He is facing multiple charges including suspicion of attempted assault, criminal mischief and making terroristic threat. On top of all that, he is facing a hate-crime “enhancement” of the charges according to the AP.
The incident occurred in Nebraska on 11/8. Tuma is a 20-year old muslim man. Additionally, he had an alleged accomplice. Nathan Marks, 20. Both idiots are facing charges. The accomplice faces charges of aiding and abetting terroristic threats and aiding and abetting use of a weapon to commit a felony.
The victim is a 22-year old and is engaged. Her brother came after her and girlfriend. They were able to get into their car safely where her brother apparently tried to push the car into oncoming traffic with his pick-up truck.
So let me get this right…your sister being a lesbian brings shame to the family but you attacking her with a crowbar is ok. According to the Lincoln Police Department, Tuma also threatened to kill his sister. Again, all about how you are brought up. Clearly, this man could use an education and some help undoing some of the brainwashing that clearly was a factor in this horrible hate crime.
Hopefully this man can take a step back and look at big picture here. Hopefully he can distance themselves from the hate-filled brainwashing and step towards being better people.
